My Story: I thought I was using a “natural” toothpaste until one day I looked at the warning label on the back that stated, “If you accidentally swallow product contact a health care provider.” I was horrified! After so many experiences like this, I should have been researching and reading the label on my “natural” toothpaste instead of assuming that because it was produced by a “natural company” it was okay! I quit using the toothpaste shortly after and started experimenting with recipes. I really didn’t like any of my recipes until I tried this recipe from a biological dentist. I modified it a little and skipped the water to make it easy and safe to store, mix, and use.
I will admit that I HATED this the first time I used it. The jar went back in my cupboard for a few weeks until I ran out of my other homemade toothpaste. I was so busy at the time that I pulled the tooth powder out and started using it again. After a few days I got used to the texture and the weird feeling in my mouth and then I really started liking it. Now that I have been using it for several months I realize that my teeth have never felt so clean. I love knowing that if one of my kids accidentally swallows it, I don’t have to call poison control!!
Interesting Fact: It is recommended by the American Dental Association to brush for at least 2 minutes. In nursing school I learned that placing a nitroglycerin pill under a patient’s tongue would often relieve angina (chest pain) in as little as 3 to 5 minutes. I also observed this several times. This little pill works by dilating (opening up) the coronary arteries. It’s so effective in the mouth that I have to wonder if putting poison in our mouth is a good idea.
Testimony: My 12 year old son has braces and each time he has gone to his orthodontic appointment this last year I received a bad report about his brushing habits. I have worked with him to make sure he is brushing correctly and even purchased some professional cleaning tools and cleaned his teeth. Nothing seemed to help! Talk about humbling! I was so shocked when I received his report yesterday that he was doing a good job brushing! I asked him what he was doing different and he said the only thing he was doing different was using my tooth powder. He did NOT like my tooth powder when he started using it, but he says he actually likes it now. Change is hard!
Ingredients: I searched for several hours to find reputable companies for these ingredients. Watch out for clays coming from foreign countries and stevia that is mixed with other junk. Poor quality products are flooding the internet! I may receive compensation from the products from Azure if you have never ordered from them, but I do not receive it for the rest of the ingredients. Click the ingredient to see exactly where I sourced it from. 🙂 You can purchase this same tooth powder on our website if you would like to try it before investing that much money or simply don’t have enough time to make it.
