We are so excited to announce … that the chickens are all moved into their new winter home!
The best part yet? This warm, bright area has significantly increased the hens egg laying – from
day one! You can just guess what’s been being placed at the dinner table. At breakfast everyone has
been getting 2-3 eggs (and that equals 20-30 eggs just for one breakfast for our family!). Also, we’ve
enjoyed egg pasta, potato salad (with lots of hardboiled eggs), and so much more!
And in case you were wondering … Yes! Hopefully we will soon be able to have enough eggs to
start selling again!
As the weather just continued to get more and more cold and nippy, I think we were starting to
wonder if the hens would have to winter in their summer trailer. Dad and (sometimes) the boys have
worked really hard the last few weeks to finish up the hoop house, but there’s just so much that goes
into building one of these things! Now finally the frame is covered, the doors are on their hinges,
chicken wire is wrapped around the whole thing, and two whole bales of straw have made those hens a
pretty nice deep bed. Do you think those chickens look cozy or what?
