I just read an article this morning that encouraged readers to buy organic, because that meant animals are on grass. I’m sorry to say that most of the organic meat and eggs sold today are not raised on grass. You can’t even be sure an animal has been raised on grass if the label says pasture raised or grass fed. There is so much fraud and deceit in the industry that the only way to know for sure is to visit the farm. I recently heard that farmers are giving their “pastured hens” marigolds to color the yolks yellow so people believe the chickens are on pasture. Cows only need one blade of grass to be considered pastured. If you are going to pay a premium price for meat and eggs make sure to visit the farm frequently. We love to have people out to our farm! Remember this, animals on grass= more vitamins and healthy fats. Do you have a farm you like to visit? We love hearing from you!
