A few years after purchasing our first chickens I asked for a milk cow, and my husband said “NO.” Then I asked for a goat and my husband said sure. We got the goat before the fence, and since I didn’t have the heart to lock it in the barn, we had a goat running around our yard, peering in the window at supper time. At times folks would stop and get a picture of the goat guarding the front steps. That didn’t last long and soon we had fence for the goat. We learned two important lessons. First of all goats are really good at jumping a fence and second to have our area prepared before getting more livestock!
